Julia Sloth-Nielsen

University of Western Cape (Sudáfrica)

Is professor of Public Law and Jurisprudence at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa, and professor of Children’s Rights in the Developing World, University of Leiden. She has been involved in child and family law reform in many countries, including her own, South Africa. She has published more than 150 chapters and articles on aspects of children’s rights, and has co-hosted an annual conference on child and family law for 23 years. She served a five year term as a member of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, and holds several positions as member of editorial boards of academic journals. She has graduated more than 75 postgraduate students, including more than 15 LLDs.

She has a broad spectrum of interests in the child and family law sphere, including children’s constitutional rights, constitutional developments relevant to family law, juvenile justice, child protection, the child in private international law, surrogacy, monitoring and enforcement of children’s rights and children’s ombudspersons.
