Is a Lecturer in the School of Law at Western Sydney University, Australia. Amira completed her PhD at Macquarie University exploring the intersection of gender, religion and family law. Prior to joining Western Sydney University, Amira was a Research Fellow at the University of Sydney working on a project that explored the response of Australian Family Law to Islamic Community Processes. Her research interests include gender in formal and informal institutions, religion and the law, human rights, anti-discrimination law, and family law. Amira’s current research explores gender in state institutions with a focus on family law. Of particular interest are the ways that legislative frameworks are shaping gendered outcomes for individuals seeking family dispute resolution.
